To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs how many officials at what grades are employed to provide direct support to special advisers in his Department.

Two officials provide support to special advisers in DEFRA. As has been the practice under successive Administrations, and as set out in the Code of Conduct for Special Advisers, Departments may provide civil servants to support special advisers, in order to enable special advisers to work effectively.
