The most common final use of the meat and bone meal (MBM) and tallow produced by processing category 1 waste is likely to be burning for heat and electricity. Some category 1 tallow may also be used in the production of biodiesel.

Processing plants are approved for the purpose by Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA). AHVLA does not retain records to verify the final end use from all processing plants.
