To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will estimate the number of (a) regular and (b) reserve forces who will leave the UK armed forces following possible changes to Scotland's constitutional status after 2014; and what the size of each branch of the armed forces will be in that event.

The UK Government is not planning for Scottish independence and cannot pre-negotiate the details of independence ahead of the referendum. We are confident that the people of Scotland will continue to support remaining within the UK.
