Culture Media and Sport written question – answered on 9th September 2013.
To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what discussions she has had with the Safe Bet Alliance on safety issues relating to betting shops.
DCMS recently wrote to the Safe Bet Alliance for an update on progress, since their code of safety and security was launched; we are awaiting a formal reply. However, I was pleased to hear of the successes in reducing betting shop robberies in London, since the introduction of this code. I was equally pleased to hear that the code has now been formally endorsed by the Association of Chief Police Officers and I have been informed that members of the Safe Bet Alliance, including representatives from the Police, local authorities, the Community Union, Crimestoppers and betting shop operators, are working on updating and improving this code.
