The Department for Business, innovation and Skills is using Labour Force Survey (LFS) data to estimate numbers of people on zero hours contracts. BIS estimates that there were 250,000 people on zero hours contracts in the UK in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The LFS sample sizes at regional level for zero hours contracts are too small to provide reliable regional estimates of the numbers on zero hours contracts.
