On 1 September 2012, a limit to the number of attempts permitted at the skills tests in literacy and numeracy was introduced as part of wider Government policy to raise the standard of those entering the teaching profession. Students who do not meet the requirements within three attempts will not be able to attempt the tests again for a two-year period. There are no current plans to review this limit, but we will continue to monitor closely the impact of the tests.
