To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assessment he has made of the preparedness of local authorities for implementation of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013; and if he will make a statement.

Since Royal Assent on 28 February 2013, the Home Office has been working closely with the Local Government Association to ensure local authorities have the right information to prepare for the Act's commencement on 1 October 2013.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
