To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many individuals resident in (a) Scotland and (b) England have had tax credit overpayments written off in the last 10 financial years.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) does not hold the information in the format requested and it could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

HMRC does hold information relating to the totality of remissions and write-offs of tax credit overpayments. The latest account figures for remissions and write-offs can be found on page 118 of the HM Revenue and Customs annual report and accounts 2012-13, at:
