To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs if his Department will make an assessment of the effect the economic downturn has had on animal charities and sanctuaries.

There are no plans to carry out an assessment of the effect the economic downturn has had on animal charities and sanctuaries, although we are aware of the growing pressure on charities, in particular the horse welfare charities.
