To ask the Secretary of State for Health what financial stringency tests are applied to private healthcare providers bidding for NHS contracts.

It is standard practice for commissioners to apply financial checks as part of their procurement processes, typically at the pre-qualification questionnaire stage. These should apply equally and in a non-discriminatory way to all types of providers but be proportionate to the service being procured. It is for commissioners to determine the precise nature of the financial checks they apply for any given procurement process.
