To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office what guidance his Department provides on the format of data published by Government.

Cabinet Office guidance is that data should be machine readable and available under an open government licence. Amendments to Section 45 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 will come into force later this summer:

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2000/36/section/45

This means that public authorities must publish datasets for reuse and, where practicable, in a reusable format.
