To ask the Secretary of State for Defence with reference to Spending Round 2013, Cm 8639, how reducing costs of construction in the Defence estate will be implemented; and what estimate he has made of how much was saved through this measure.

The Ministry of Defence’s Spending Round 2013 settlement included a commitment to reduce our spending on our estate capital investment programme by £125 million in financial year (FY) 2015-16 through benchmarking our plans against industry best practice and then setting the targets within contracts wherever possible. These savings apply from FY 2015-16 and we will work with our suppliers in the intervening period to establish the precise details of their implementation.
