Research and development is covered under the existing EU General Block Exemption Regulation which exempts measures from state aid notification requirements. The Commission is currently consulting on revision of the General Block Exemption Regulation as part of its work on state aid modernisation; the draft revised Regulation continues to cover research and development. The UK will be submitting its response to the consultation in due course.
