All prisons are required to provide physical education to prisoners. Since 2010 the number of prisons with swimming pools for use by prisoners has reduced from five to two. These are located at HMP Standford Hill and HMP Holloway. Where operational circumstances permit, these pools are made available to local groups, including for example, those who support the elderly.
