To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the financial effects of proposed European Commission regulations of interchange fees on (a) debit cardholders, (b) credit cardholders and (c) small businesses.

The European Commission is expected to publish a legislative proposal by summer 2013 to regulate multilateral interchange fees on card payments. The proposal will be accompanied by an impact assessment.

The Government will make its own assessment of the legislative proposal once the proposal is published.
