To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what methodology was used to estimate the cost of the High Speed 2 project; and if he will make a statement.

HS2 Ltd has appointed leading engineering consultancies to prepare estimates using a range of conventional techniques. The estimates are subject to a number of assurance processes including peer and independent review. Additionally, risks associated with the project are identified and assessed to inform an appropriate level of contingency.
