In November last year, the Secretary of State for Transport, my right hon. Friend Mr McLoughlin, met with SNCF, France's state-owned railway company that operates France's national rail services including the Train á Grande Vitesse (TGV)—France's high-speed rail network.

Officials are also continuously considering if there are any valuable lessons from other high speed rail projects that the UK could possibly use in the development of their HS2 plans.
