To ask the Secretary of State for Health what comparative assessment he has made of levels of obesity in the UK and other comparable countries; and if he will make a statement.

The Department has not itself undertaken a comparative assessment of obesity rates in the United Kingdom and other countries.

The Public Health England Obesity Knowledge and Intelligence team (formerly National Obesity Observatory) produced a paper in June 2012 which sets out international comparisons of obesity prevalence. These papers, and supporting web pages, include information on the prevalence of adult and child obesity in the UK and a number of other countries around the world, where data are available.
