To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what discussions she has had with the Northern Ireland Executive on the Government’s proposed welfare reforms.

The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, my right hon. Friend Mrs Villiers, met Nelson McCausland the Minister for Social Development on 27 June.

We have agreed some flexibilities in respect of Northern Ireland’s special circumstances but it is now essential that the Assembly implements the reforms by January so as to avoid Treasury passing on additional costs to the Executive.
