To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what the average cost to her Department was of processing the payment of an invoice in the latest period for which figures are available; and what proportion of invoices settled in that period her Department paid (a) electronically and (b) by cheque.

The average cost of processing the payment of an invoice during the financial year April 2012 to March 2013 was £10.65.

The Department has a general policy of making electronic payments. Cheques are only issued when required for legal services. For financial year 2012-13, the proportion of invoices paid electronically was 99.5 % and the proportion paid by cheque was 0.5%.
