To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what proportion of his Department's budget will be spent on science and technology in (a) 2013-14, (b) 2014-15 and (c) 2015-16.

The Department's plans for funding the centralised Ministry of Defence Science and Technology Programme, under the Department's chief scientific adviser, as a proportion of the Department's budget, equate to 1.2%, 1.3% and 1.3% in financial years 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 respectively, meeting our intention to sustain science and technology investment at a minimum of 1.2% of the Defence budget.
