To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what the write-off costs are as a result of cancelling Project Hydrus at the Atomic Weapons Establishment.
Philip Dunne
The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence
In the annual report and accounts 2010-11 the Ministry of Defence provided advance notice of the potential write-off of up to £120 million incurred on Project Hydrus prior to its termination.
The hydrodynamics testing capability will now be delivered through the joint UK and France programme, Project Teutates.
The exact amount to be written off will be finalised as Project Teutates matures.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
