To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent assessment he has made of the activities of the leader of the Muttahida Quami Movement leader Altaf Hussain; and what his policy is on the activities of that group in the UK.

The activities of the Muttahida Quami Movement and Altaf Hussain are not a matter for the British Government, provided that they are lawful. The police are the appropriate body to investigate any allegations of criminal acts.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
