To ask Her Majesty's Government what representations they have made to the Government of Turkey about the sentencing of Fazil Say; and what responses they have received to those representations.

The Government are aware of the prosecution of Fazil Say under Section 216 of the Turkish Penal Code. While the UK has not made specific representations to the Turkish Authorities, the European Commission has, on behalf of the EU, underlined the importance for Turkey of fully respecting freedom of expression in line with the European Convention on Human Rights and case law of the European Court of Human Rights.

We expect Turkey to uphold legal and judicial standards that are in line with its international commitments. Together with our EU partners, we will continue to monitor the case closely.
