To ask the Secretary of State for International Development what recent assessment she has made of the effect of programmes funded by her Department on average family size.

DFID has a significant commitment to programmes which increase girls' and women's empowerment, including their ability to access contraceptive services, supplies and information. The desire to have smaller families is complex and driven by many factors including: rising incomes, improved life expectancy, lower infant mortality, better education and increased savings, as well as changing cultural and social norms.
