House of Lords written question – answered on 11th March 2013.
To ask the Chairman of Committees what plans there are to improve the acoustics of the area below the Bar of the Chamber occupied by members of the House.
There are no immediate plans to carry out any work affecting the acoustics below Bar. The Parliamentary Estates Directorate is currently conducting a feasibility study to assess whether to update the sound system in the Chamber. If the sound system is replaced then more modern microphones and loudspeakers may help to improve the sound for Members below Bar. However, this work is purely at a scoping stage at the moment, and it is not likely that any work will be undertaken in the near future.
