To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what means-tested (a) cash and (b) non-cash benefits are provided by his Department; what the means- testing rules are for each such benefit; and how much was spent on each means-tested benefit in 2011-12.
HMRC are responsible for the administration of tax credits. Information about the rules on tax credits can be found on the HMRC website at

Information about payments can be found on the website at:
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/statistics/receipts/receipts-stats.xls
This indicates that cash expenditure on tax credits was around £30 billion in 2011-12. Statistics on total tax credit entitlement for 2011-12 will be published in May 2013.
