To ask the Secretary of State for International Development how much her Department spent on training and education for civil servants in (a) 2010-11 and (b) 2011-12; and if she will make a statement.

The Department for International Development (DFID) spent £3,140,519 in 2010-11 and £2,423,157 in 2011-12 on training and education for civil servants.

These figures represent payments to training providers for staff training, further education and professional development for DFID staff, including staff appointed in country.
