To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs when he expects to make an announcement on the outcome of the consultation into the mandatory introduction of CCTV in slaughterhouses; and if he will make a statement.

The Government's consultation on measures to implement EU Regulation 1099/2009 on the Protection of Animals at the Time of Killing closed on 24 October 2012. This consultation also sought comments on the proposal not to require compulsory installation of CCTV in slaughterhouses. The Government are currently considering the responses received. Once this process has been completed, a response will be published on the DEFRA website.
