To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many staff were employed by his Department in each of the last five years; and at what grade or pay band such staff were appointed.

The total number of staff employed by the Department for Transport and its seven Executive Agencies for the last five years can be found in the table below. The Government Car and Despatch Agency ceased to be a separate agency in September 2012.
