To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills what assessment he has made of the financial contribution of the Scotch whisky industry to the UK economy in the next 12 months.

The Scotch whisky industry is a UK success story, with exports worth £3.5 billion in 2011 and an estimated Gross Value Added of £3 billion. The industry employs over 10,000 people with a further 25,000 people employed indirectly in supply chains. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has not made an assessment of the UK Scotch whisky industry's likely performance in the next 12 months.
