To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what estimate she has made of the potential costs of a shift of digital terrestrial broadcasting to the 600 MGHz band; and if she will make a statement.

The question raised is one for the independent regulator, the Office of Communications (Ofcom). On 16 November Ofcom published a statement on its plans to enable the release of new airwaves for future generations of mobile devices, which will help meet consumers' growing demand for data on the move. The plan includes the spectrum at 700 MHz and 600 MHz. The Department has made no estimate of the potential costs of a shift of digital terrestrial broadcasting to the 600 MHz band. It is too early to make assessments of any impact or benefit associated with any such move.
