To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications for a Tier 2 General visa were (a) granted and (b) refused by the UK Border Agency in each of the last 10 years.

Tier 2 of the Points Based System was introduced in November 2008.
Figures for the number of Tier 2 General entry clearance visas issued and refused from 2008 to 2011 appear in the following table.

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
