To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department which civil liberties organisations she has met to discuss her draft Communications Data Bill.

Home Office Ministers and officials have meetings with a wide variety of partners, as well as organisations and individuals in the public and private sectors, as part of the process of policy development and delivery.

As was the case with previous Administrations, it is not the Government's practice to provide details of all such meetings.

During the Draft Communications Data Bill Committee on the 31st of October 2012 the Home Secretary was asked:

"Did you, before deciding on the breadth of the new powers, consult any of the organisations concerned with protecting privacy and human rights?"

Her response was:

"There have been, throughout the course of this, a number of discussions with certain organisations about their views on this."

Asked to elaborate she added:

"For example, I have had a very early discussion on this and a number of other matters with, certainly, one organisation. Officials have been discussing, have had other people in, and have had a number of meetings with individuals and organisations who take a different view from the Government".
