To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills on how many occasions the provisions of section 42 of the Enterprise Act 2002 have been invoked since the section entered into force; and on what date each such intervention was made.
Section 42 allows the Secretary of State to intervene in public interest mergers on the basis of national security, media plurality and financial stability of the UK. There have been four public interest intervention notices issued under section 42 since the legislation came into force. They occurred on:

In addition, there have been five European intervention notices (issued under section 67) and one special intervention notice (issued under section 59).
