The issues which have led to the cancellation of the Intercity West Coast franchise competition are completely unrelated to any work done on HS2. The Department has a well-established approach to passenger forecasting which is subject to a range of sensitivity tests, and we are confident that the modelling that has been undertaken in relation to HS2 is fit for purpose.
