To ask the Secretary of State for Education what financial support is available to grandparents who adopt their grandchildren; and if he will make a statement.

Grandparents who adopt their grandchildren have the same access to adoption support as all other adoptive parents. They have the same entitlements to child benefit and child tax credits as any parents. If they have adopted their grandchildren through an adoption agency (usually their local authority), they are also entitled to an assessment of their need for financial support. It is for the local authority to decide whether to provide this. In making their decision the local authority must take into account the individual circumstances of the case.
