Work is already under way in Border Force to improve its management information and data management systems as part of its wider transformation programme and to implement the recommendations made by the independent chief inspector in his investigation into border security checks. A key part of this is ensuring that staff know what to record and why. All changes in procedures already include record-keeping and assurance mechanisms that are in line with the new operating mandate for the Border Force. Appropriate systems are already in place to record the suspension of checks described in the operating mandate, and this addresses a key concern of the independent chief inspector.
