The Department is currently developing the overall strategy for the evaluation and monitoring of universal credit. No detailed plans are yet available. However, monitoring and evaluation will involve capturing the views of representative samples of different groups of claimants such as families with disabled children. Survey data, qualitative research and feedback from stakeholder groups will be used to assess the effects for different groups of claimants. In conducting research on universal credit, the Department will draw on the guidance “Involving disabled people in social research” published in August 2011 by the Office for Disability Issues.
