On 18 June, I discussed the issue of desinewed meat with Commissioner Dalli (European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy), including the timing of relevant audit visits by the EU Food and Veterinary Office to other member states and the process and timescales for the Commission to submit a mandate for a formal scientific opinion on mechanically separated meat by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The Commission has indicated that this will be sent to EFSA within the next few weeks.
