To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the economic multiplier effect of (a) public and (b) private investment in house building.

House building in the UK has a predominantly domestic supply chain. That all else being equal, would tend to support a higher economic multiplier. While the economic multipliers of public and private sector house building are likely to be similar, economic impacts will vary with labour market conditions and the amount of spare capacity within the economy.
