The Office for National Statistics published latest figures on public sector employment on 20 June 2012 which showed that public sector employment has decreased by 11,000 since the first quarter of 2010. There were 336,000 people employed in the public sector in Wales in the first quarter of 2012.

It is worth noting that the decrease includes a drop of 9,000 in local government employment in Wales, a devolved matter, between the first quarter of 2010 and the end of 2011.
