To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change what assessment he has made of the effect on incentives to (a) build and (b) sustain new combined heat and power (CHP) plants of the cancellation of levy exemption certificates; what alternative incentives his Department has identified to encourage the (i) acquisition and (ii) maintenance of CHP capacity; what his policy is on the desirability of such capacity; and if he will make a statement.

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave Cathy Jamieson on 2 July 2012, Hansard, column 422W.

We are working closely with the industry and other stakeholders on these questions and the Department will make clear our policy on support for CHP once this work is complete.
