To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government how many planning approvals and rejections there were for wind turbines in (a) Isle of Wight constituency and (b) England in the most recent year for which figures are available.

My Department does not collect this information, but the Isle of Wight council advises that in the 12 months from 1 June 2011 a roof mounted micro wind turbine was approved. In the same period an application for three turbines was dismissed following a planning appeal. For England, for the same period, DECC’s Renewable Energy Planning Database recorded 36 approvals and 37 refusals but this does not record applications for small scale microgeneration.
