To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what discussions she has had with retailers on the potential effect of the EU partial stalls ban to be introduced in 2013.

Recognising the importance of compliance with the upcoming partial sow stalls ban, I recently met with leading representatives from the pig meat supply chain (including the British Retail Consortium), to discuss the UK's position. The discussion was fruitful with retail, processing and trade representatives stating their intention to source pig meat only from compliant systems of production. There are plans for a follow up meeting with wider groups of stakeholders, including retailers, in the autumn to discuss progress made and next steps.
