Rio+20 reaffirmed the importance of the conservation and sustainable use of marine diversity. On areas beyond national jurisdiction, the declaration recognised the need for a new Implementing Agreement (IA) before the end of 2014. The Government will continue to press for this IA to include marine protected areas in locations beyond national jurisdiction.
