Since 2008 the UK Government has contributed some £638 million to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. The Secretary of State for International Development, my right hon. Friend Mr Mitchell, confirmed to the International Development Committee on 17 April this year that the UK would be providing a further £128 million in each of 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The Secretary of State also indicated that he is prepared to make a significant increase in the UK contribution in 2013 and 2014, in addition to this £128 million per year, subject to successful progress with reforms that are under way within the fund and in the way it does business with implementing countries.
