To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether it is her policy that pregnant women are always allowed to keep their hand-held maternity records (maternity notes) when they enter immigration detention.

Pregnant women who have been issued with hand-held records or a medical book while in the community are permitted to retain these on entering immigration detention. While detained, such records are maintained by the immigration removal centre's healthcare department to ensure continuity of care.

Secretary of State

Secretary of State was originally the title given to the two officials who conducted the Royal Correspondence under Elizabeth I. Now it is the title held by some of the more important Government Ministers, for example the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
