To ask the Secretary of State for Justice what the cost to the public purse was of expenditure on defendants' costs in private prosecutions in each of the last three financial years.

Departmental accounting systems do not separately identify the expenditure on defendant's costs where the prosecution had been brought privately from those prosecutions brought publicly.
