To ask the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change with reference to the National Grid's Mid Wales Connection Project, what discussions he has had with the First Minister of Wales on the need for a 400kV cable between the National Grid and a new substation.

Neither I nor other DECC Ministers have held discussions with the First Minister of Wales on this project. It would be for National Grid to make the need case for any such connection when submitting proposals for regulatory and planning approval.
